drinking water treatment plants to match the Handbook for the Operation of Wastewater Treatment Works. The initiatives of the Water Research Commission (WRC) and the Water Institute of Southern Africa (WISA) are recognised to have the Handbook developed. Some sections in this Handbook are similar to certain sections. A drinking water treatment plant uses a circular sedimentation basin to treat MGD of river water. (MGD = million gallons/day = m3/s, a common U.S. measure of flow rate used for water and wastewater treatment.). After storms occur upstream, the river often carries mm silt .

The swirl concentrator as an erosion control device has been designed to concentrate the heavier soils from large flows. The concentrated underflow of up to 14 percent of the flow can be directed to a forebay or settling basin. The device is circular and for small watersheds a simple stock watering.
EPA/ December THE SWIRL CONCENTRATOR FOR EROSION RUNOFF TREATMENT By Richard H. Sullivan, American Public Works Association Morris M. Cohn, Consultant James E. Ure, Alexander Potter Associates F.
Parkinson, LaSalle Hydraulic Laboratory, Ltd. Paul E. Zielinski, Clemson University Contract Number Project Officer Richard Field Storm and. Abstract. The SWIRL concentrator is a small, highly effective device for flow control and primary treatment of combined sewer overflows, Swirl concentrators similar to the version developed by EPA (1) have been adopted by several sanitary districts in by: 3.
Capability of the Aqua-Swirl® Concentrator to Remove Trash from Stormwater Runoff J The purpose of this document is to demonstrate the capability of the Aqua-Swirl® Concentrator to capture trash from stormwater runoff.
Trash is defined herein as material having a minimum diameter of 5 millimeters (mm). These swirl concentrators non-mechanically separate floatable debris from storm water and wastewater runoff.
In addition to the swirl concentrators, Fibergrate fiberglass grating was installed at this facility for walking platforms to provide a secure walking surface when wet, while both fiberglass railing and structural supports were built. Runoff from the spray and stormwater is channeled to a holding pond. This water either evaporates or percolates into the soil.

Featured Products: ecoStorm Stormwater Treatment System ecoStorm™ consists of 2 circular concentric precast structures: an outer structure forms the swirl-chamber/vortex separator, the inner cylinder serves as a floatables collection chamber. Benefits Get superior CSO treatment.
The Storm King ® delivers % removal in two directions of gross solids, floatables and neutrally buoyant material larger than 6 mm, and achieves 95% removal of TSS and BOD - equivalent to primary treatment. Combine screening, sedimentation and disinfection.
The Storm King ® incorporates both a screen and a hydrodynamic separator to ensure exceptional. Full text of "Manual of practice on urban drainage" See other formats. Today’s drainage systems must cost-effectively manage flooding, control streambank erosion, and protect water quality.
5 Drainage Systems Conventional drainage systems are designed to achieve a single objective — flood control during large, infrequent storms.
This objective is met by conveying and/or detaining peak runoff from large. variety of sources: agricultural runoff containing excess nutrients, sediment-laden runoff from open construction sites, and parking lot runoff carrying trash and oils are each significant sources of non-point source pollution.
The next step toward clean water has been focused on this non-point source pollution. Sullivan, R.H. et onship between diameter and height for design of a swirl concentrator as a combined sewer overflow regulator.

EROSION & DEPOSITION (teach) 1. Erosion and DepositionBy Moira Whitehouse PhD 2. In the last presentation we examined weathering.
Now we will move to the concepts of erosion and deposition. They will be considered these two together because it is hard to separate them; one follows the other. 3.
